The King Seiko 5625-7120 was manufactured by Seiko's Suwa facility in the early 1970s, with this particular piece dated to March 1972 according to serial and reference identifiers.
Featuring the advanced 5625 movement—a development of the 56KS automatic—this model operates at a high-beat frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, resulting in enhanced timekeeping accuracy and their well-known refined seconds hand sweeping motion.
Created as an internal competitor to Grand Seiko, King Seiko aimed to raise standards of precision, design, and reliability while maintaining broader market accessibility.
The 56-series, including the 5625-7120, reflects Seiko’s “Grammar of Design” philosophy, characterized by its sharply defined, angular Zaratsu-polished case and minimalist dial presentation.
This example remains in excellent overall condition. The stainless steel monocoque case shows minimal signs of use, and the case back retains a well-defined gold KS medallion. The original KS-signed crown is present.
The crystal has been replaced with a new, unmarked component.
The silver metallic dial is pristine, featuring applied indices and logos. The protective coating is intact and free from damage, with crisp printing and flawless applied elements.
Driven by the Suwa Seikosha 5625 calibre, this high-beat movement functions at 28,800 BPH. The mechanism has been professionally serviced, including disassembly, cleaning, and lubrication, resulting in reliable operation and accurate timekeeping. The quick-set date feature is fully operational.
Currently fitted with a Japanese aftermarket "Bear" brand leather strap—an authentic vintage accessory displaying minor age-related wear—the watch also comes with the correct KS-signed buckle hardware. Additionally, it is accompanied by two custom hand-made, high-quality leather bands from Vietnam, designed to fit the original King Seiko buckle and enhance the watch’s classic aesthetic, appealing to collectors and aficionados alike.
This watch represents an exemplary specimen of the reference and would make a distinguished addition to any vintage collection.
